Pope Leo XIV became the leader of the Roman Catholic Church on 8th May 2025. He is the first American to become pope. He is known for his kindness, love of peace, and commitment to helping others.
Pope Leo XIV was born Robert Francis Prevost on 14th September 1955 in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in a loving family and felt called to serve the Church from a young age. After joining the Order of Saint Augustine, he became a priest and dedicated his life to helping others.
His work took him to Peru, where he spent over 20 years supporting communities and promoting education. His compassion and leadership were recognised, and he was eventually appointed as a bishop and later a cardinal.
On 8th May 2025, after the passing of Pope Francis, he was elected as the 267th pope and chose the name Leo XIV, honouring Pope Leo XIII, who was known for his work on social justice.
Since becoming pope, Leo XIV has focused on bringing people together, promoting peace, and addressing modern challenges like artificial intelligence.
Pope Leo XIV continues to inspire people around the world with his gentle spirit and dedication to making the world a better place.
