Who Was the God Amun-Ra?

Amun-Ra was known as the king of the gods in Ancient Egypt. He was believed to be the creator of everything, including other gods, humans, and the world itself!

Amun-Ra was often depicted as a man with a ram's head, or wearing a crown with two tall feathers. He is also shown with a hawk's head, which is how he appears in our pictures.

The Power of Two

Amun-Ra is actually a combination of two gods—Amun and Ra.

Amun was known as the "Hidden One" and was the god of air and wind.

Ra was the sun god, responsible for bringing light to the world every day by travelling across the sky in his sun boat.

When these two gods merged into Amun-Ra, they became even more powerful!
